Jaguar GPS Radio Colored

Dear  friends,

Today we had a successful day here at Emas National Park in Brazil We captured and tagged a 104 kg male jaguar with a GPS radio-collar. This animal in particular has been monitored through camera-traps since 2006. We expect that from now on we will learn in more detail how jaguars use the Park's habitats and the surrounding landscape. We specially aim to identify dispersal corridors. Emas Park protects the last grassland jaguar population of central Brazil and is thus a key area for the species. This population has been monitored for more than 10 years now and we estimate that some 30 jaguars reside in the Park. We expect to tag and monitor at least 8 individuals this year.

Best regards to all,
